The future of open source is a topic that is of great significance to the Java community as much of Java’s success depends on open source software surviving and thriving over the next decade or so. 

An article in the Economic Times looks at the pros
and cons of open source software as well as attempts to guess what the future of
open source software will be. It also discusses the Linux vs Windows issue.

source software have captured approximately 45% of the commercial market, and
that figure seeming to rise each year.
