 The importance of security is often realized only after an application's security is breached. One of the reasons why security is not enforced is it's impact on application performance. Adding security makes my application slow is a very common excuse for not securing applications. While security features is a generic term, and can mean a number of things right from firewalls to identity management and more, in this article we will concentrate on the cryptographic implications. JavaOne every year seems to have one prominent topic that overshadows everything else. 2008 seems to belong to JavaFX and Java on mobile and consumer devices. There's been no talk of SOA and minimal talk on enterprises. Rich Internet Applications (RIA) is definitely Sun's focus this year. The other talk from Sun dealt with Java for movies, Java for DVDs and on other consumer electronics. So like one speaker said, Java has gone full circle, it began with consumer devices and is now returning to the same.

 CommunityOne, the conference for free and open software was held on the 5th May 08. Most sessions were introductions to various free and open software. The event covered a wide range of topics from the Linux, Scripting and open software world yet it did not seem to have attracted many non-Java developers. |

 James Gosling recently wrote "JavaOne coolness is getting over the top. A fair number of hotels are already sold out. For the past several years we've been back on a track of annual serious escalation." So it looks like JavaOne 08 will be bigger and better than in previous years.
