Ajax represents the maturation of Internet standards into a viable application development platform. The combination of stable standards, better understanding and a unifying vision amount to a whole that is greater, by far, than the sum of its parts. Ajax makes it possible to achieve feature-filled user interfaces and a no-hassle, no-install deployment story.

Google Web Toolkit (GWT) is a Java software development framework that makes writing AJAX applications like Google Maps and Gmail easy. Writing a dynamic web application today is a tedious and error-prone process; about 90% of time is spent working around subtle incompatibilities between web browsers and platforms, and JavaScript's lack of modularity makes sharing, testing, and reusing AJAX components difficult and fragile.

Using GWT avoids many of these headaches while offering users the same dynamic, standards-compliant experience. Front end of web application is written in the Java programming language, and the GWT compiler converts Java classes to browser-compliant JavaScript and HTML.
