Java Enterprise Edition (JavaEE) 6 has been approved by the official Java standards body.
The future of the Java Community Process (JCP) has been a topic for debate and discussion, especially post the Oracle acquisition of Sun. Most Java enthusiasts are closely following how Oracle’s handling Java’s community and open source processes. With this backdrop, the Java Community Process has announced the release of JCP program version 2.7. JCP program 2.7 enhancements claim to provide greater openness and transparency, as well as more agility in the JCP program process of JSR development.
The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) – developers, stewards, and incubators of leading community-driven Open Source projects – announced its tenth anniversary at ApacheCon. Evolving from eight developers known as “the Apache Group” who created enhancements and managed the development of the original Apache Web server, The ASF today comprises nearly 300 individual Members and over 2,000 Committers collaborating across six continents through The ASF’s successful meritocratic process known as “The Apache Way.”

James Gosling, Vice President and Sun Fellow announced today as part of his keynote at Sun Tech Days in Sydney that Ted Leung, author, Apache Software Foundation (ASF) member and long-time Python developer at the Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF), and Frank Wierzbicki, lead implementor of the Jython project (Python on the Java VM), will become Sun employees this month. They’ll be working full-time on Jython and in particular paying attention to developer tools.

Ted is an open source veteran and has been involved in open source initially via the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), and now the Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF). He is the author of the book Professional XML Development with Apache Tools.
