The Groovy language and the Grails framework have slowly but surely grown in prominence. Grails uses the best ideas from the Ruby on Rails world while still continuing to leverage the tried, tested and trusted Java platform as well as established frameworks like Spring and Hibernate. However there has been hardly any community behind Groovy and Grails in India. The Java meet for this month is an attempt to facilitate discussion amongst Groovy and Grails enthusiasts in Pune & India.

While understanding the popular design patterns is not too difficult, relating them to real applications certainly is. Early on a project lifecycle, developers and architects have to decide on which design patterns to use, decisions that have a major impact on the overall project.

The session at the Java meet this month looks at one of the most common software development questions encountered in recent times – How to use Agile methodology and techniques on large enterprise application projects? Prerana Patil from Oracle Financial Services (formerly i-flex solutions limited) speaks about “Agile Development for Java Enterprise Applications.”

Google technologies like Maps, Searches and Docs are very popular. However realizing that the innovation in Web 2.0 has to come from communities on the web, Google is now empowering them with tools and APIs to build their own innovative yet practical applications.
One can now combine and build applications using maps, gadgets, customized search, feeds, spreadsheets and mashup editors, and not to forget Google Gears. This session will look at using various Google technologies and APIs for Google Mapplets, Local Searches, Google Base, Searches, Open Social and even Google Docs (mainly about building applications with SpreadSheet).
