Java is the most popular programming language

We have lately delivered a lot of news that question the future of Java. But here’s some great news for Java developers. Java has climbed to the top of the TIOBE index. Showing a + 5.80% change as compared to Dec 2004, the Java language is currently the most popular programming language around.

Java is followed by C, C++, PHP and Visual Basic. The TIOBE site states that Java and C# are the only 2 candidates for the “TIOBE Programming Language of 2005” award. Only 13 programming languages make it to the A grade (mainstream). Python has dropped one position to number 8 while Ruby comes in at number 26.

The TIOBE Programming Community index gives an indication of the popularity of programming languages. The ratings are based on the world-wide availability of skilled engineers, courses and third party vendors. Google, MSN, and Yahoo! search are used to calculate the ratings.
